The Mayor’s Call to Pray for Peace in 2018

This past weekend the Mayor of our city sent out letters to Pastors all over Columbus Ohio asking for their churches to pray for the city, for peace in our city, after 2017 in Columbus we experienced a record number of homicides, and after the opioid addiction reached epidemic proportions in our city.

All over the City, the weekend of January 6th, 7th, the Body of Christ prayed and asked God to come into our city and bring His healing hand and delivering power into our city for peace, for transformation and reformation to Columbus Ohio.

But what most don’t realize is the spiritual significance of this past weekend, with an invitation or request of the Mayor of the city to pray for peace to come to our city.   So let me explain what’s happening in Columbus Ohio.

This past November, while in Jerusalem, Israel, the Lord impressed upon our ministry team these verses in Psalm 24:1-8, to pray over Jerusalem and the cities of the earth, for the entrance of the King of Glory back into the earth.

Psalm 24:1 The Earth is the Lord’s and all it contains, The world and those who dwell in it…Who may ascend unto the hill of the Lord, and who may stand in His holy place…..Lift up your heads, O gates, And be lifted up, O ancient doors and the King of glory shall come in…

After seeing the purported Eastern gate, where Jesus Christ, Yeshua the Messiah will enter into Jerusalem after a 2000 year absence, I heard the spirit say to me, “Its time for My body to begin commanding in prayer, the gates and doors to be opened for my Son to return.

What prompted me to recognize these verses as a prayer declaration to receive the King of Glory back into the cities of the earth, as opposed to just seeing it as a Psalm to recite, was when I realized that we (our team) had literally ascended the hill of the Lord, mentioned in verse 3, which is Jerusalem. We were actually in the city of Jerusalem, the ancient city of God.

Once I saw that David was speaking of Jerusalem when he said, “Who may ascend the hill of the Lord,” and that we were on that hill, Mount Zion, Jerusalem, a city set on a hill, I then was able to see that this verse was speaking of a summons into the mountain of the Lord, of the generation that will seek His face for His return, receiving His righteousness and blessing, in order to pray for the return back into the earth of the King of the whole earth, the King of Glory….. He shall receive the blessing of the Lord, and the righteousness of the God of His salvation. Such is the generation of those that seek him, who seek the face of the Lord v.5, 6

After praying this way in Jerusalem for the remaining days of our time in Jerusalem, and upon our return to the states, two weeks later, President Trump gave a monumental announcement, acknowledging Jerusalem as the Capital of Israel.  The first such acknowledgment from a sitting US President in the 70 year history of the modern state of Israel.

But what do gates and doors being lifted up represent?  And how do we get the King of glory to come in?

A City in Need of Divine Intervention

Our city, fresh off of a year in 2017 of the highest number of homicides in this city’s history, has just stepped into a divine time on the calendar of God. Because a governmental gatekeeper has recognized the need for the God of glory to come into our region to bring peace, if the Church can come together across racial, denominational, and congregational lines in our city in prayer and worship, we are being positioned for a divine encounter with the King of glory, to bring both visitation, revival, reformation, and reconciliation, altogether in one city, at one time.

But what does the Mayor of a city asking Pastors to pray for peace have to do with the gates of a city being opened for the release of the Son, Yeshua the Messiah, to return?

There are two verses of scripture that explain the context of what it means for the gates of a city to be opened for the King of Glory to come in.  They are Matthew 23:37 and Luke 19:41

In Matthew says, Jerusalem, Jerusalem, who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, the way a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you were unwilling. Behold, now your house is being left to you desolate.  For I say to you, from now on you will not see Me until you say, BLESSED IS HE WHO COMES IN THE NAME OF THE LORD.

In Luke 19:41 it says, When He approached Jerusalem, He saw the city and wept over it, saying,”If you had known in this day, even you , the things which make for peace! But now they have been hidden from your eyes.  For the days will come upon when your enemies will throw up a barricade against you, and surround you and hem you in on every side, and they will level you to the ground and your children within you , and they will not leave in you one stone another because you did not recognize the time of your visitation.

In these verses many miss what Jesus was prophesying. Firstly, he was pronouncing Judgment over the city of Jerusalem because the city leaders/fathers rejected Him as their Messiah. When He said JERUSALEM, JERUSALEM, He was speaking to the leaders of Jerusalem, both the governmental and religious leaders of the city, which are the city fathers, the gate keepers of the city.

He was confronting their rejection of him as their Messiah, and saying, because you would not have me, or receive me, because you failed to recognize me as your salvation (deliverer, covering or protection) from Roman domination, your city is going to be left desolate, (there will be no peace in your city, but destruction) and you will not see me again, UNTIL YOU (Religious and Political Leaders) SAY BLESSED IS HE THAT COMES IN THE NAME OF THE LORD.

In other words, until the city fathers, the gate-keeping leaders, both the spiritual, religious leaders, and the governmental, political leaders, say COME, WE NEED YOU IN OUR CITY! YOU ARE THE ONLY ANSWER! He will not come back to Jerusalem.

About 40 years after this prophecy in Matthew 23:37 and Luke 19:41, in 70 AD, Jerusalem was destroyed by the Romans, (the stones in the above pictures shown the destruction of the fisrt century temple) and the Jews were scattered from the city for almost 2000 years, because the city fathers did not recognize the time of their visitation.

Even today, as Jerusalem has been returned to God’s people in 1967, after almost 2000 years in the hands of the Gentiles, Jesus still needs the Political and Religious leaders of Jerusalem to say BLESSED IS HE THAT COMES IN THE NAME OF THE LORD, for Him to return to the city.

And before this happens, and for this to happen, Jerusalem will have to go through another time of desolation and tribulation, the likes of which she has not seen from the beginning of her existence to now.  This Great tribulation mentioned in Matthew 24:21 in the city of Jerusalem, known as the time of Jacobs trouble (Jeremiah 30:7) is what’s going to cause the leaders of the city to beckon their true Messiah to come back to this Holy City.

Towards that end, God’s people – those that love Him in Jerusalem – are commanded, according to scripture, to “Pray for the peace of Jerusalem” (Psalm 122:5-7).

This peace is not the absence of war or conflict, but it is the presence of Jesus, their Messiah coming because of conflict/war and tribulation in Jerusalem, that causes the leaders of Jerusalem to look up for their redemption, and ask Him for His peace, which is Yeshua Hamishiach.

Ephesians 2:14 says, For He Himself is our peace, who made both groups into one and broke down the barrier of the dividing wall… that in Himself He might make the two into the one new man, thus establishing peace, and might reconcile them both in one body in God through the cross….

The peace we are commanded to pray over Jerusalem and the cities of the earth, is the return of Yeshua the Messiah, invited back to the city by it’s governmental and spiritual leaders, to bring SHALOM, to reconcile humanity to Himself and to one another.

This cry or prayer for Shalom, the Peace of Yeshua doesn’t come until men come to the end of  themselves as the source of peace.  This is what must happen in Jerusalem before the Prince of Peace returns.

This is what happened in Columbus from City Hall, with the Mayor, Ginther seeking out the Churches of Columbus to pray for peace in our city.  The governmental leaders of our City in 2017, with the record Homicides and the Opioid epidemic, came to the end of themselves.

When the scripture says, Lift thy heads O ye gates and be ye lift up ye everlasting doors, it’s the city governmental and religious father’s that sit at the gates and doors that are being commanded to Look up towards the God of Glory for redemption, inviting Him into the city to make war against His enemies, to bring peace, and to establish His will and Kingdom in the city.

Luke 21:28 When these things begin to happen, look up and lift up your heads, for your redemption is drawing near

The GATES and DOORS to the City

But before this Man of Peace is released to come back to Jerusalem, gates and the doors must be lifted up….Lift up thy Heads Oh ye Gates….Be ye Lifted Up Ye Ancient Doors….

The GATES represent the political leaders and the DOORS represent the religious, spiritual leaders.

The Mayor of a city represents the governmental Apostolic GATEKEEPER in that City.

Gates are mentioned often in Scripture, and gatekeepers were an important part of maintaining order in ancient societies. Gatekeepers were guards stationed for protection at various kinds of gates, which could be city gates, palace gates, or temple gates. Ancient cities had high, thick walls around them to keep out wild beasts and invading armies (Joshua 7:5; Judges 5:8; Nehemiah 12:30). A gatekeeper lax in his duties could bring ruin upon an entire civilization, so the idea of gate-keeping implies alertness and security.

In the Ancient Near East city gates were neither merely entrances, nor only used for military protection. But when the Bible talks of the “gate” it may also mean:

  • the “market”,
  • the “law court” (either formally in criminal cases or less formally as the place where family business or disputes were settled),
  • the public forum where community business was discussed and gossip exchanged or
  • the administrative center – the “Town Hall” Mayor’s Office.

The Priesthood/Ministry Gifts of a city represents the DOORS into that City.

Jesus said in John 10:1-3 Truly, truly, I say to you, he who does not enter by the DOOR into the fold of the sheep, but climbs up some other way, he is a thief and a robber.  But he who enters by the door is a shepherd of the sheep. To him the DOORKEEPER opens, and the sheep hear his voice…..

Mark 13:33 Take heed, keep on the alert; for you do not know when the appointed time will come. It is like a man away on a journey, who upon leaving his house and putting his servants in charge, assigning to each one his task, also commanded the DOORKEEPER to stay on the alert. Therefore, be on the alert (Watch) for you do not know when the master of the house is coming, whether in the evening, at midnight, or when the rooster crows, or in the morning, in case he should come suddenly and find you asleep. What I say to you I say to all. WATCH

So we can see that for Jesus to be invited into a city, or to the earth, the city fathers, and our heavenly Father in agreement with intercessors in the earth, have to initiate it. (Matt 6:10)  THIS IS WHY IT WAS SO MAJOR FOR THE MAYOR OF COLUMBUS TO ASK THE CHURCHES OF OUR CITY TO PRAY FOR PEACE.

The way that Jesus accesses cities are through the places of worship in those cities.  When Jesus cried out in Luke 19:41-46 because Jerusalem did not recognize her day of visitation, He then went to the Temple (the Church of that day), to visit the temple for the first time, as if to say, “Why can’t this City recognize it’s time of visitation?”  When He got to the temple He found the religious leaders engaged in religious corruption, racism (buying and selling in the courts of the Gentiles, prohibiting the Gentiles from coming to the House of prayer) and he prepared a whip and turned over the tables of the money changers and cried out. “My House shall be called a House of Prayer for all nations (races), but you have made it a den of thieves.”

Psa. 24:1 A Psalm of David. The earth is the LORD’S, and the fullness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein. 2 For he hath founded it upon the seas, and established it upon the floods. 3 Who shall ascend into the hill of the LORD? or who shall stand in his holy place? 4 He that hath clean hands, and a pure heart; who hath not lifted up his soul unto vanity, nor sworn deceitfully. 5 He shall receive the blessing from the LORD, and righteousness from the God of his salvation. 6  THIS IS THE GENERATION OF THEM THAT SEEK HIM, THAT SEEK THY FACE, O JACOB!

What is the generation of them that seek Him? It’s the generation that understands that the earth is the LORDS, everything in it is His, the world (system) is His, and all that dwell (the people) in it belongs to Him.

What is the generation of them that will seek Him? Those that realize that He has founded it upon the floods, and seas, which in the word of God represents the multitudes of praying people that release the out-pour of His spirit through intercession.  He’s founded the earth on the word of the Lord out of the mouth of Sons…… Hebrews 1:3 And He (the Son) is the radiance of His glory and the exact representation of His nature, and UPHOLDS ALL THINGS BY THE WORD OF HIS POWER.

What is the generation of them that will seek Him? Those that will realize that the mountain of prayer (Isa. 56:6-8) is the place where God dwells, and will ascend the mount with clean hands and a pure heart.  Those that will not lift up their soul to idols, nor pledge their allegiance to other gods,

What is the generation of them that will seek Him? Those that will receive the blessing and righteousness of the Lord from Fathers to call Him back…..A good man leaves an inheritance to his children’s children and the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the righteous. Prov. 13:22

When both the Gates and the Doors Lift up their heads together looking to the Prince of Peace to bring peace to a city, there is divine agreement for the release of power to bind evil over a city, and release Christ to come into our city.

Our Mayor agrees that our city needs the Prince of Peace. But has the Church been convinced of that, and are they willing to turn from the corrupt religious practices, their racial, denominational and congregational divisions, synonymous with the first century religious leaders in the temple at Christ’s first visit to the temple, and turn back to God in Solemn Assemblies of prayer?

If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14

And Jesus entered the temple and drove out all who sold and brought in the temple, and he overturned the tables of the money changers and the seats of those who sold pigeons. He said to them, “IT IS WRITTEN, MY HOUSE SHALL BE CALLED A HOUSE OF PRAYER, BUT YOU MAKE IT A DEN OF ROBBERS. Matthew 21:12, 13

Blow the trumpet in Zion; consecrate a fast: call a solemn assembly, gather the people.  Consecrate the congregation; assemble the elders; gather the children, even the nursing infants. Let the Bridegroom Leave his room, and the bride her chamber. Joel 2:15, 16

In 2005, Bob Jones – A recognized Prophet in the Body of Christ – released a vision he saw of a great man who had fallen asleep and was tied down by little people with small ideas. Although this sleeping man was completely tied down, he was on the verge of waking up! Bob Jones called this man, the Body of Christ – a prophetic picture of the church. Bob then saw many cities that would awaken different parts of this sleeping man – Columbus, Ohio was his heart with a promise of the release of signs and wonders and Cincinnati would reproduce the priestly and kingly anointing. Other cities he saw were Cleveland, Philadelphia, Indianapolis, Charlotte, Nashville, and Atlanta. We believe this vision is a roadmap for releasing another great awakening in our day!

Last year, thousands gathered to Jacob’s Field at the Q  in Cleveland, Ohio as we initiated the awakening of this Revival Man, which was the head of this very large man in the vision. We believe it was ground zero for a massive corporate breakthrough of revival – a sovereign-ly scheduled epicenter for a move of worship, prayer, reconciliation, healing, and salvation.

Now we are headed to the next two cities from Bob’s vision, with more cities to come, believing that God is wanting to release another great awakening that will bring transformation in this nation. We are in need of a fresh spiritual outpouring, new mercy, and new miracles. Now is the time!

Join Lou Engle and others for a weekend of worship, intercession, reconciliation, healing, and salvation in Columbus January 13th and Cincinnati on January 15th  for the next two stops of this Revival Man Tour. Register today by clicking this link
